The No Child Left Behind Legislation requires that both teacher and paraprofessional are deemed “highly qualified. For teachers, this means an appropriate professional teaching certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. For paraprofessionals, “highly qualified” is defined as possessing an Associate Degree or its equivalent or successful completion of a rigorous assessment.
All Clairton Teachers and Paraprofessionals, at the start of the 2018-2019 school year, are “highly qualified”. Evidence of this can be found in each classroom where the necessary credentials are placed in certificate frames for your review.
Should a situation arise when a classroom has been assigned or has been taught for four (4) or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified within the meaning of the term in section 200.56 of the Title I final Regulations (67 Fed. Reg. 71710, December 2, 2002) each parent will receive a letter from the Director of Curriculum and Federal Programs.
If you would like to see additional details concerning the “highly qualified” status of our staff, please call Mrs. Debra Maurizio, Director of Federal Programs at 412-233-9200 Ext. *1051.
