Updated Notice from Dr. Hunt Regarding COVID-19 -- March 26, 2020

Dear Parents & Guardians,
Governor Wolf closed Pennsylvania schools for another ten days or until April 9, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The school administrators and I have been preparing to continue instruction for our students as we anticipate extended school closures. Teachers are working this week to learn more about online teaching and prepare lessons for our students. We miss having your children here and hope they miss us as well.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has approved a Continuity of Education Plan that involves remote (at home) online learning opportunities. These school days will count as our regular instructional days and students may end the 2019-2020 school year on June 5 as planned. Students will not physically report to school but will receive attendance credit if they engage in and complete teacher-directed learning assignments. Your child’s full instructional day will be offered online.
We will begin the fourth nine-week period beginning Monday, March 30 th . We will offer remote learning online utilizing Google classroom. Teacher “office hours” online will be from 10:00 am through 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Students can sign on between these hours to view lessons and assigned work that will be graded. They can email or chat with their teachers who will be available during this time frame. Students will have anywhere from one or two days to complete the work. We are aware that younger students will need parent support and some parents may be working so flexibility will be key as we embark on this non-traditional way of learning.
Principals and teachers will be providing more specific guidance to students and parents throughout this learning process. Every week we plan to reflect, re-evaluate, and revise in order to improve our services. Your feedback will be necessary to help us improve.
Realizing that not all homes are equipped with internet we will be providing a minimal number of work packets for students to complete. Our goals are to get these out to the elementary students on Friday during the lunch hour (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) and the secondary students on Monday, March 30 during the lunch hour (11:00 am -12:00 pm) at the elementary lobby door. The Technology Access Survey you completed has helped us plan accordingly. Those needing packets will be notified when they are available. Please remember that a free hot lunch and cold breakfast is available to all children Monday through Friday in the elementary lobby and three off-site locations as listed on the District website.
